ALYNGARN BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOGS

Home

We first started to look at Bernese around 1984. We went to shows and talked to people in the know. We also looked at the dogs intently from the ringside. In 1985 we heard there was a litter that had been born in Coventry, we rang them and duly made the journey to pick up Nell. (Jah Soon come of Alyngarn). She was to become our foundation bitch. Nell was a medium tall bitch although she carried no spare weight. Although a  good type of Bernese, her head could have been stronger. She was very light on her feet with a good turn of speed when chasing rabbits! (hip score 0x0). Our first thought of showing was soon after we got Nell. Tess came along, a real livewire. She turned out to be a good showgirl just what you need to get started (Arvella Alissa of Alyngarn). So, the showing went on and we were by now hooked. Nell was mated to different dogs and on all occasions produced better and stronger offspring than herself. One mating produced Kate (Alyngarn Sunglow) a substantial bitch with a superb temperament. In the show ring she was showing good promise winning some quality classes. Unfortunately she had to be put to sleep at 12 months with spinal cancer. We then mated Nell to Carlacot Genesis of Nellsbern (Bogie, Yes Helens a Humphrey Bogart fan) out of which we had Chip (Alyngarn Prize Asset). He was an excellent type of dog just what we were looking for, a medium/large dog, with excellent bone, a strong head and moved really well. Chip had a good start to his show career.
